Mary Beth's post on Salt and Chocolate yesterday inspired me to just watch my kids yesterday afternoon. In the hour or so that I observed their play, this is what I saw.
They happily collaborated on a woodblock tower...
And when he went to play with puzzles, she built the "town of woodsville",
roped off into a Finn-free zone.
Also, since the weather here is so blah again, I made this yummy spring salad to cheer us up. Isn't it beautiful?!
Asparagus-Strawberry Salad
Asparagus-Strawberry Salad
1 bunch asparagus
12 ripe strawberries, capped & diced
1/2 large green pepper, diced
1/2 med onion, diced
1/4 cup raspberry vinaigrette (I used Newman's Own)
Cut bottom 1/3 of asparagus off and discard. Slice remaining asparagus into 1 inch pieces. Steam for 2 minutes then plunge into cold water to halt cooking. Combine with other ingredients, and chill for 2-3 hours.

ReplyDeleteI love that recipe-- two of Grady's favorite tastes in one bowl. We will have to make it as soon as I find a decent strawberry (drat Whole Foods for not opening here!)
ReplyDeleteDo you think I could make a reservation in Woodsville? Looks like a nice place for a vac-ay.
I love Woodsville!
ReplyDeleteAnd that she closed the town to marauders. :)
The spring salad sure is pretty!
Yummy salad! I'll have to try it out. Love the roped off section of Woodsville :)
ReplyDeleteI love those blocks! And that salad looks yummy-has a summer look to it.
ReplyDeleteOooh, I'm copying you with that salad this weekend. That looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteYour kids are so cute. I loved the story of their afternoon play. So many positive interpersonal skills are learned from siblings playing together.
that salad looks so pretty. That is cool she made a town with those blocks. I was thinking about them, but seems like people didn't love them. Maybe your daughter have a different opinion? I was just telling my kids when they were little, they love to knock down stuff, and drop stuff to see mommy and daddy's reaction. Experiment, testing, discovering, that's how we learn.
ReplyDeletemmmm, that salad looks terrific. So excited to have asparagus soon, we love it here. That little Finn, little stinker knocking his big sister's blocks down.
ReplyDeleteI love Woodsville!
ReplyDeleteSince both asparagus and strawberries are in fine form right now, I'm making this salad! I usually just snap off the bottoms -- they snap where the woodiness starts, so you always get the good stuff.
ReplyDeleteThat spring salad is beautiful, thank you for such a lovely recipe. I would not have thought to combine asparagus and strawberry. YUM!
