My darling husband sent me this blog post a few days ago about getting rid of fruit flies. (Has anyone else been as plagued by these this year as we have? My poor houseplants are sweltering out on the back deck as I was thinking they might be contributing to the problem, and the compost bowl has been out there all summer too. Grrr...) I have to admit that I was a little suspicious that the vinegar/sugar water concoction would work any better than, say, a glass of apple juice, which will kill some but not get them all, and those things multiply like bunnies!
Lo and behold, in 12 hours, the whole bottom of the glass was lined with fruit flies. Score 1 for team Blaser! We'll try it again if they come back, but for now, I have my kitchen all to myself...just the way I like it. :)
I am going to remember that for mid-summers when we seemed to be overrun with them. Thanks!! Oh and that pic of Finn is precious!
ReplyDeleteLate summer is my favorite time of summer--I really appreciate every moment!
ReplyDeleteThe tree the kids are playing in is so pretty. Do you know what kind it is?
ReplyDeleteTammy,
ReplyDeleteThe tree is a crape myrtle. They are everywhere around here, including my front yard, although mine are too little to climb in just yet. :)

Cute photos! Those fruit flies are awful, aren't they? I used to have a little countertop composter that attracted them. Now, it's just outside the back door.
ReplyDeleteLovely summer photos Joy :)Thanks so much for the fruit fly post, this is so wonderful because our worm bin really attracts fruit flies in the summer. I will be trying your recipe :)
ReplyDeleteLast year I had a lot of fruit flies. I put out some over ripe fruit in a zip lock bag and left it there for an afternoon. Then I quickly zipped them shut. After doing this a few times they were all gone.
ReplyDeleteI'm so trying this! We have been absolutely driven crazy by them this summer, and I can't figure out why.
ReplyDeleteAhh yes, the joys of fruit flies lol what a great tip : )
ReplyDeleteYour kids look like they enjoying these late summer days!
I love the picture of Finn, too. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy end of summer!!
I love crape myrtle, I don't think they grow very well here in Ohio; but my grandparents have 2 (in Va.) and they are so gorgeous in bloom!
ReplyDeleteGreat tip for the fruit flies!
Lisa ;)
