lunch in July

Our friends, the Callahans, are in town for the long weekend, and when Jenni and I hit the farmer's market early this morning, she convinced me to bring along my camera to capture the 8 am crowd at our market.


Then there was the crowd of tomatoes. This stand probably represents less than 10% of all the tomatoes we encountered. Amazing! And so many heirloom varieties to choose from. We're enjoying the Cherokee Purples today.


And the crowd of corn. We picked up a mere 15 ears for grilling tonight. Yum!


Our Saturday lunch consisted of locally made dill pickles, cucumbers in red wine vinegar and olive oil, sugared peanuts, blueberries, tomato mozzarella basil salad, rosemary flatbread and hummus. All locally grown and made with the exception of the hummus. We had quite the feast on our farmer's market fare!


Finn wanted you to see his Saturday lunch too. His plate is, of course, mostly picked over already. :)

  1. That lunch looks so delicious! We're having hummus and pitas for lunch today to. Local tomatoes are probably a month away still.

  3. Oh, that sounds fabulous. The tomatoes haven't really come out en masse yet here, so I'm jealous of yours, but there were still tons of gorgeous veggies to ogle at our farmers' market this morning. We had a completely farmers' market based dinner tonight of steamed artichokes, green beans, sauteed mushrooms and onions and fresh baked halibut.
