WIP Wednesday

My very first vest was frogged today. Finn hasn't gotten a ton of use out of it because although he loves the soft yarn, the obvious disproportion of the vest drove me nuts to see. So I decided to just bite the bullet and frog the whole thing so that I could make another vest that would get more wear. The yarn is mamma4earth and really is so lovely and soft. I'm very much enjoying knitting with it again.

The pattern I'm using this time is the Sweet 'n' Easy Vest by Bernat. I think the v-neck will work well with Finn's large noggin. Since I won't need the car buttons for this vest, I may have to figure out some way to accessorize with them so he'll actually wear it. :)

Finn's car quilt (yes, that was a quilt my mom was helping with in yesterday's post) is coming along nicely. I finally (after weeks of searching) found a flannel I liked for the back of the quilt. I lusted after Riley Blake's Wheels line of flannel for months, but I didn't want to pay full price. When the line was discontinued last month, I searched but only found a few places that had yardage left of the Wheels line, and none of them had the actual car prints. So I settled for the signs print with the brown background.

I'm mostly happy with the signs flannel. It's definitely a busy print, but the better to hide my quilting lines, right?

Speaking of the quilting, my mom helped me get started with that, and we're quilting 6 inch squares inside each 10 inch square of fabric. I think this will work well to hold the cotton batting in the middle.

It's about 1/3 of the way quilted now!

I changed my entire plan for Elizabeth's doll quilt when I found this pack of fat quarters. Instead of the 9 patch quilt I'd planned, I decided to make a gradient striped quilt. Now I need to figure out what to back it with! I think I'll use bias tape to bind this one.

Lastly, a little more detail on the hats for the nephews. I found a nice gray yarn and decided to try the Turn A Square hat. I tried to size it down to child size and did pretty well with the width, but the hat turned out a bit long. You can see in the first photo below that it's a bit baggy at Elizabeth's crown.

It's actually rather nice looking when it lays flat so I'll probably frog the crown and make it about a half-inch shorter. Apparently frogging is the order of the day!
