leprechauns on the lawn

Just in time for St. Patrick's Day later this week, we've had some visitors come to play with us. These leprechauns don't seem to be the tricky kind; they just want to have some fun.

They've been taking in the clover, bringing some luck to the 4-leaf hunting, and generally making merry in the yard.

So we invited them in to stay a while. All of the kids have had fun playing with these new little friends. I might have to see if I can find a few more hiding in the lawn before St. Patty's Day!

The last I saw them, the were heading toward the table. They must have caught a whiff of our special St. Patrick's Day dessert...

Maybe these leprechauns are a little trickier than I thought!

We'll have to eat our way across the rainbow before they get the chance!

The rainbow cake is a regular yellow cake. (I loosely followed this recipe, with less sugar and half whole wheat pastry flour.) The frosting is a cup of whipping cream, beat with a cup of powdered sugar and a sprinkle of vanilla. The rainbow fruits are, in order of appearance, strawberries, mandarin oranges, pineapple, kiwi, blueberries, blackberries with a pretzel pot of gold and golden bananas.
