Yarn Along

February is the month of knitting for myself, apparently. Almost as soon as I finished my February Lady, I cast on another sweater for myself, also with Malabrigo worsted merino. It truly is one of my favorite yarns to knit. So soft and squishy! I found some Cognac on sale a few months ago so I bought 4 skeins then searched ravelry for a pattern that would fit the amount of yarn I bought. And so I found the Ystävälle-neuletakki. The pattern was originally written in Finnish, so the measurements are metric which requires a bit more work, but I really like how the back is coming so far.

I've also started By The Shores of Silver Lake during our family reading time. The kids were a little saddened at first by Mary's blindness and Jack's passing, but the book is evening out now and exciting things are happening. I'm enjoying re-reading it myself, especially my mom's old copy that I remember seeing on our living room bookshelf as a child.

  1. What beautiful yarn!
I have my copy of the same series on the shelf and love knowing that one day my grandchildren will read them just as their parent's did.
    Happy yarn along.

  3. I LOVE the color! That is going to be a beautiful sweater. I've done 1 or 2 patterns where the measurements are in metric. I'm lazy & make my math whiz of a husband figure it out for me! So many of you yarn along ladies have been reading the Little House on the Prairie series. I should dig out my old copies at my mom's one of these days and start it again.

  4. Great sweater pattern. Love the knit stitch carried up between the purling sections. Again, I get the urge to read a Little House book when I read your posts...

  5. That is one book that I did not read yet from the series. I have it on our shelf, but haven't read it. What a beautiful color for your new sweater.

  6. That's going to be a really nice-looking cardigan.

You know, I can't remember if I've ever read any of the Little House books, although I faithfully watched the TV show.

  9. By the Shores of Silver Lake is my favorite of the entire series. And (I sincerely hope this isn't going to burst your bubble) it's the only book written with almost no input from Laura Ingalls Wilder's real-life-daughter Rose. So the writing and the love of the outdoors that you see is all Laura. Not that the other books aren't excellent, but there's so much muddiness in who wrote what that when I realized that my favorite had very little Rose, I also realized Laura and I had some of the same loves when it comes to the outside.
